Glenn W. Killian

North Jackson: Our dad was a private man, but he loved to talk. He was faithful, but he loved to question. He grieved often, but he also loved generously.  He loved to argue. A good debate sustained him, yet he was a quiet man, full to the brim with unspoken ideas and possibilities. He was sure of himself, yet he constantly reminded us just how little he knew.

Dad was always in the process of becoming the man he hoped to be. In our journey forward, what more can really be asked of us?  We must live, and learn as much as we can about this messy and often tragic world, and then we must love as fully as we have the strength to do. Our dad did this. And he did it beautifully and with his whole heart.  He left us with a smile on his face.

Glenn Killian, loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather passed away on Oct 2 at his home in North Jackson, surrounded by his family. His parents, 9 siblings, and his son, Glenn Jr., preceded him in death.

Born in Aurora, IL on January 18, 1926 to Clarence and Florence (Yates) Killian, he grew up in Montgomery, IL.  He was married June 7, 1947 to Fay Edna Garling in an Aurora IL ceremony.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Fay Edna (with whom he celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary this year); his sons, Art (Janet) and Dale (Charlotte); daughters Debbie Rybak and Annette (Steve) Dunlap; grandchildren Sam (Becky), Pete, Hollie (Steven), Josh and lan; and great grandchildren Alida and Aiden.  He is also survived by his brother, Paul (Jan) Killian of Dixon, IL and sister, Marilyn Eggleston of Naples, FL.

Glenn served in the Army during WWII with the 134th Evacuation Hospital, European Theater in France. He worked for Lukens Pipe Coating Corp. for 40 years in many different positions, before retiring in 1988 as a general manager.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Dr. Tonia Farmer who cared for our dad these last 4 years.  She was such a blessing.

Also, so much thanks to Hospice of the Valley for their continuous help and support for dad and our family during his final week.  They were certainly angels on earth.

Per Glenn’s wishes there will be no calling hours, however the family will hold a Remembrance Celebration of Glenn's life from 9:00-11:00am on Sat. Oct. 7 at the Pioneer Pavilion in Mill Creek Park and invite all who would like to attend.

In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made in his name to the Cancer Center at St. Joseph Hospital, 677 Eastland Avenue, SE, Warren, Ohio 44484 or to Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market Street, Boardman, Ohio  44512.
