William E. Comer, Jr., 67

Youngstown: There will be funeral services on Saturday, December 13, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at Thompson-Filicky Funeral Home, 4221 Market Street, Boardman for William Edward Comer, 67, who died Saturday, December 6, 2014 at Hospice House with his family by his side.

Bill was born December 25, 1946 in Charleston, West Virginia, the son of the late William E. and Barbara A. (Castor) Comer, Sr.

He graduated from Wheeling High School in West Virginia. Bill enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and served in the Vietnam War. He earned the National Defense Service Medal and the Rifle Marksmanship Badge. Bill was proud to be a Marine.

He and his family moved to the Youngstown area in 1993.


Bill was in construction for more than 40 years. He was also a heavy equipment mechanic and welder. He worked for Marta Track Constructors, Inc. in Washington, PA., for over 25 years, retiring in 2011.


Bill is survived by his wife of 42 years, the former Rebecca M. Sharp, whom he married on June 6, 1972; a son Matthew W. Comer of Youngstown; two brothers, Mike (Debbie) Comer of Findlay, Ohio and Larry (Janet) Comer of Friendswoods, Texas; three sisters, Kay Comer of Parkersville, West Virginia, Debbie (Al) Cooley of Dickinson, Texas and Patty (Al) Jobe of Huntington, West Virginia.

Family and friends may call on Friday, December 12, 2014 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Thompson-Filicky Funeral Home, Boardman and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Following the funeral service, full military honors will take place at Tod Homestead Cemetery.
