Walter Frederick Irons

Boardman: There will be a funeral service on Sunday, December 2, 2012 at 1:30 p.m. at

New Covenant Worship Center, Church of the Nazarene, 1900 Canfield Road, Youngstown for Walter Frederick Irons, 78, who died Thursday morning, November 29, 2012 at Valley Care Northside Medical Center.

Walter, known as "Walt" was born September 17, 1934 in Trenton, New Jersey, the son of the late Walter Frederick and Ruth Isabelle (Smith) Irons. He graduated from Hampton High School in Trenton, New Jersey and attended Eastern Nazarene College. He later graduated from Lake County Community College, Grayslake, Illinois with an associate Engineering degree in Applied Electronic Technology.

He was a communication technician for Motorola in Texas for over 6 years, retiring in 2003 and previously worked for NASA, in Greenbelt, Maryland, where he worked on sounding rockets.

Walt was a member of New Covenant Worship Center, Church of the Nazarene, where he was a dedicated layman. He served as secretary on the church board, he was an adult Sunday School teacher and past Sunday School Superintendent. He was a member of The Gideons International.

He served as a Corporal in the Army and later as Airman 1st Class for the Air Force, where he worked in communication for "SAC".

Walt is survived by his wife of 53 years, the former Doris Irene Clingerman whom he married on September 11, 1959, three children: Walter F. (Miriam) Irons of Charlotte, North Carolina, Lee G. (Becky) Irons of Yorktown, Virginia, and Dorcas "Cassie" (Marty) Eversole of Woodburn, Kentucky. He leaves 10 grandchildren, 5 step-grandchildren and 3 step great grandchildren.

Besides his parents, Walt was preceded in death by his sister Betty Valko.

Family and friends may call on Saturday, December 1st, from 4:00 to7:00 p.m. at Thompson Funeral Home, 4221 Market Street, Boardman and from 1:00 to 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, December 2nd, at New Covenant Worship Church.

Military Graveside services will be held on Monday, December 3rd at 11:00 a.m. at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, 5400 Market Street, Boardman.
