Youngstown: There will be funeral services on Monday, April 30, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Thompson Funeral Home, 4221 Market Street, Boardman for Robert Edward Flicker, 88, who went to his heavenly home to be with the Lord on Wednesday morning, April 25, 2012.

He was born October 6, 1923 in Elkhart, Indiana, the son of the late Floren A. and Verla J. (Yost) Flicker. After moving to the Youngstown area, Robert graduated from South High School in 1942.

Robert worked for Republic Rubber Company, which later became Aeroquip, for 45 years as a wire braid operator, retiring in 1985.

He was a member of Poland Village Baptist Church and a former member of Gibson Heights United Presbyterian Church, where he served as an elder, deacon and trustee. Robert was an avid sports fan and participated in team sports, including baseball, bowling, and golfing, getting a hole in one early in his golfing career. He received many awards in bowling and golfing.

Growing up near Mill Creek Park, Robert had a lifelong love for nature, spending many hours hiking and exploring God's beauty. After his retirement, he enjoyed traveling, caring for his garden and his yard.

Robert is survived by his wife of 66 years, the former Margaret E. Morrison, whom he married on December 15, 1945, three daughters Beverly J. (Steve) Mirich of Youngstown, Ohio, Janet (Paul) Moore of Cary, North Carolina, and Pattie M. (Dominic) Anzevino of Boardman, Ohio, seven grandchildren; Michael Parker, Michelle (Tony) Cheff, Tammy (Brian) Loew, Laurinda (Brian) Soloway, Steve (Cassy) Mirich, Ben (Nina) Parker, and Laurie (Ajit) Singh, and 21 great grandchildren. Besides his parents, Robert was preceded in death by two sisters; Mary Schmid and Ruth Nagle.

Family and friends may call on Sunday, April 29, 2012 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Thompson Funeral Home, Boardman.

The family requests that material tributes take the form of contributions to MVI HospiceCare, 4891 Belmont Avenue, Youngstown, Ohio 44505 or to the Poland Village Baptist Church Memorial Fund, 79 Hill Drive, Poland,Ohio 44514 in Robert's memory.

Robert's family would like to thank the caregivers at MVI HospiceCare for the love, care and support that they gave to Robert and his family during this time. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends and all who knew him.
