Boardman: There will be a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 15, 2012 at Saint Luke Catholic Church, 5235 South Avenue, Boardman, for Richard James Hart, 83 who died Wednesday evening, September 12, 2012, at Saint Elizabeth Boardman Health Center.

Richard was born January 14, 1929 in Boardman, Ohio the son of the late Ernest Karl and Mary Elizabeth (Mc Phillips) Hart. He graduated from Boardman High School in 1947 and Youngstown State University with a degree in Advertising.

He was a Metallurgist in the Chem Lab, Stop #14 at Youngstown Sheet Tube for 34 years. Richard worked as a sales representative for the Phoenix Advertising Company for over 30 years, retiring in June, 2012.

Richard was a charter member of Saint Luke Catholic Church, along with his wife. He was a member of Saint Luke Holy Name Society, the Saint Vincent De Paul Society, where he served as the first president, the church choir and the golf league at the church. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Serra Club and the Youngstown Maennerchor.

He served as the Scoutmaster of the former Troop 183, Boy Scouts of America at Saint Luke Church for over 15 years where he received the Silver Beaver Award from the Mahoning Valley Council for his years of service to the scouting program. He also received the The Bronze Pelican Award, in recognition of outstanding service to the spiritual development of Catholic youth in the program of The Boy Scouts of America.

Richard is survived by his wife, the former Niaomi D. Ferguson whom he married on June 12, 1951, two sons David J. Hart of Buffalo, New York, Raymond R. Hart of Miami, Florida, a brother Robert (Ellen Jane) Hart of Boardman, a sister Janet (John) Cook of Hockessin, Delaware, a brother-in-law William Ferguson of Austintown, two sisters-in-law; Nancy Ferguson of Austintown, and Shirley Ferguson of Cape Coral, Florida

. Family and friends may call on Friday, September 14, 2012 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Thompson Funeral Home, 4221 Market Street, Boardman and 1 hour prior the service on Saturday at. Saint Luke Catholic Church.

The family requests that material tributes take the form of contributions to Saint Vincent DePaul Society.

"A revered man of great character and substance, loving husband and father, devoted brother, uncle to his family and endearing friend to all who's life he touched. Richard always left an indelible trail to remember him by where ever he passed and whomever he met. We retire my father's shoes to God for there is no one who can fill them like he, let us celebrate a man for all times."
