Peggy Joan Howe

Boardman: Peggy Joan Howe 86, passed away Wednesday evening, November 23, 2011 at home with her devoted daughter, Megan Cooke-Howe and loving grandchildren Cameron, Madeline and Addison Cooke-Murphy by her side.

Mrs. Howe was born January 2, 1925 in London, England where she graduated from the Archway School of Nursing in 1943. She stoically and compassionately served as a nurse during WWII.

In 1949 Peggy left the British Isles and was granted United States citizenship in Youngstown, Ohio in 1956. She gained employment at The Cleveland Clinic where she met her future husband. After their marriage in 1953 they moved to Boardman where Mrs. Howe became an educator for the Boardman Local School District. It was also during this time that she diligently served on PTA Councils, Girl Scout leadership and involvement with other community activities. Peggy was indeed a charitable woman. After her retirement she was licensed and became a dedicate foster parent with HFK, Homes For Kids. Mrs. Howe was a long time member of St. James Episcopal Church where she enjoyed singing hymns, and was for many years a choir member.

Peggy was preceded in death by her truly loving husband Arthur W. Howe who died September 9, 1978. Peggy will be so sadly missed, but remembered with fondness, admiration, and a giggle by those who knew her.

The family thanks the compassionate caregivers and staff of Hospice of the Valley. At her request, there will be no calling hours or services. Arrangements have been made with Thompson Funeral Home, 4221 Market Street, Boardman, Ohio 44512, (330) 788-6568.

In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate memorial contributions be entrusted to the funeral home. Cards and condolences may also be sent to the family at 4869 Erie Street, Boardman, Ohio 44512.
