Boardman: There will be a Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, February 17, 2015 at 5:00 p.m. at Saint Luke Catholic Church, 5235 South Avenue, Boardman for Paul Slovan, 94, formerly of Edenridge Drive, who died Friday morning, February 6, 2015 at Briarfield Manor. Family and friends may call on Tuesday from 3 to 5 p.m. at Saint Luke Church Chapel.
Paul was born April 28, 1920 in Trauger, Pennsylvania, the son of the late Paul and Mary (Kundric) Slovan. He graduated from Sharon High School and attended Youngstown College for Mechanical Engineering.
Paul participated in the Civilian Conversation Corps and was very proud to be part of this program. He was a member of Civilian Conversation Corps, Chapter 125 in New Castle, Pa.
He worked for Dalton Dalton Little Newport in Cleveland and later for U.R.S. Engineering & Architect Firm as a Mechanical Engineer licensed in New York, Illinois and Ohio before retiring.
Paul was a charter member of Saint Luke Catholic Church, a member of the Holy Name Society. He volunteered at Saint Luke Church Kolachi Sale and annual church festivals.
He was an avid golfer, bowler and played on several leagues. He enjoyed playing cards, Couple’s Bridge, Domino’s, Phase Ten with his family during family gatherings.
Paul is survived by seven children, Ronald (Rita) Slovan of Tuscon, Arizona Bernard (Barbara) Slovan of South Lyon, Michigan, Michael (Jaye) Slovan of Houston, Texas, Carol (William) Lyons of Boardman, James (Denise) Slovan of Macedonia, Margaret (Jeffrey) Houston of Boardman and Charles (Tiffany) Slovan of Fort Wayne Indiana, son-in-law Joseph Tabone of Buffalo, New York; twenty five grandchildren; Jared, Polly, Rachel, Christopher, Kimberly, Allyson, Nicholas, Vincent, Katie, Jason, Adam, Shannon, Megan, William, Molly, Diana, Kelly, Emily, Daniel, Derrick, Mitchell, Grant, Mark, Adam and Charlie; and 14 great grandchildren.
Besides his parents, Paul was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine M. “Kay” (Hoza) Slovan, whom he married on May 15, 1943, died October 31, 2005; two daughters, Nina Slovan Dvornek and Barbara Tabone; a son, Paul G. Slovan; two brothers, Michael Slovan and Alex Slovan and six sisters, Anna Slovan, Barbara Sabo, Mary Sudzina, Margaret Harkulich, Madge Cagno, Catherine Subick-Spirko
Paul loved and cherished his wife, Kay of 62 years, and was proud of all his children, their spouses, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Each of Paul’s grandchildren had a special and unique relationship with him. He taught them many things and was their biggest fan.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Hospice House and Hospice of the Valley for the love, care and support that they gave Paul and his family.
