Novi, Michigan: There will be a Mass of Christian burial on Monday, December 10th at 10:00 a.m. at Saint Luke Church, Boardman, with Fr. Joseph Fata officiating for Nina Slovan Dvornek, 68 of Novi, Michigan who died Tuesday afternoon, December 4, 2012 at her residence.
Nina was born November 21, 1944 in Sharon, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Paul and Catherine Marie (Hoza) Slovan. She graduated from Boardman High School in 1962, Youngstown State University with a Bachelor Degree in Chemistry, and Sacred Heart University, Connecticut with a Master Degree.
She worked as an engineer for over 30 years, retiring from Northrop Grumman Systems Corporation in Connecticut in 2003.
Nina was a member of Saint James Catholic Church in Novi, Michigan. Nina was an avid bridge player and played at the master level. She enjoyed traveling the world and spoiling her nieces and nephews.
She is survived by her father, Paul Slovan of Boardman, her brothers and sisters; Ronald (Rita) Slovan of Tuscon, Arizona, Bernard (Barbara) Slovan of Novi, Michigan, Michael (Jaye) Slovan of Houston, Texas, Carol (William) Lyons of Boardman, James (Denise) Slovan of Macedonia, Ohio, Margaret (Jeffrey) Houston of Boardman, Ohio and Charles (Tiffany) Slovan of Canton, Ohio and 25 nieces and nephews.
Nina was preceded in death by her mother Catherine Slovan, sister Barbara Tabone and brother Paul G. Slovan.
Family and friends may call on Sunday, December 9th from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Thompson Funeral Home, 4221 Market Street, Boardman. The funeral will be on Monday, December 10th at 10:00 a.m. at St. Luke's Church with viewing in the chapel at 9:30 a.m.
