There will be funeral services Sunday, September 13, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. at Thompson-Filicky Funeral Home, 4221 Market Street, Boardman for Joseph Tarantino, 98, of Canfield, who died Friday morning, September 11, 2015 at Greenbriar Healthcare Center.
Family and friends may call on Sunday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. A Military graveside service will be conducted by the Disabled American Veterans, #2 on Monday, September 14, 2015 at 12 noon at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, 5400 Market Street, Boardman.
Joseph was born February 13, 1917 in Youngstown, Ohio; the son of the late James E. and Stephanie Colucci Tarantino.
He was a 1935 graduate of Scienceville High School in Youngstown.
He was a machinist with Commercial Shearing for 20 years, retiring in 1979. Joseph also owned and operated the Tarantino Auto Service; a service station in Youngstown in the late 1930’s, with his step brother. His son, Charles joined him in the family business and he continued working at the garage for over 80 years.
He was very strong in his faith and was a long time member of First Free Methodist Church in Canfield.
Joseph proudly served his country during World War II as an Army medic with the 156th Airborne Battalion.
His wife of 55 years, the former Ethleen S “Dee” Garling; whom he married on July 16, 1955, died February 18, 2010.
Joseph is survived by two sons, Joseph J. (Barbara) Tarantino of Louisville, Charles L. (special friend Andrea) Tarantino of Youngstown, a daughter, Lisa F. (Rev. Richard) Morgan of Spring Arbor, Michigan; three sisters; Ange Tarantino of Youngstown, Mary Rohovsky of Struthers, Helen (Jack) White of Poland, several grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, his wife, two sisters; Rose Tarantino and Connie Shaffer, a step-brother Charles Parno; and his step-sister; Fannie Kalcic.
The family requests that material tributes take the form of contributions to First Free Methodist Church, 3999 McCarty Drive, Canfield, Ohio 44406 in memory of Joseph.
