Gerald Leroy Fleming, 94

     Warren:  There will be a Mass of Christian burial on Friday, January 4, 2019 at 10:00 am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 232 Seneca Avenue with Father Frantisek Katrinak officiating, preceded by a 9:30 a.m. prayer service at Peter Rossi and Son Memorial Chapel in Warren, for Gerald Leroy Fleming, 94, who passed away Sunday morning, December 30, 2018 with his loving family by his side. 

     Gerald, known by “Jerry” was born April 8, 1924 in Newton Falls was the son of the late Charles and Eiffie (Bright) Fleming. 

     He was a Navy veteran, serving as a Seabee gunner during World War II.  Jerry earned the European African Eastern Campaign Ribbon; Asiatic Pacific Campaign Ribbon; American Theater Ribbon; and the World War II Victory Ribbon.   

     Jerry was a test and service engineer for Taylor Winfield Corporation in Warren for 14 years and later worked for Portage Transfer for 12 years, before retiring in 1989. 

     He was a member of Saint Mary’s Catholic Church in Warren and a former member of Saint Pius X Church. Jerry was a past Grand Knight for St. Frances Cabrini Council 4484 of the Knights of Columbus, a third Degree member of Council 4484 and a Fourth Degree Knight with Bishop James McFadden Assembly.

     He was a member of the American Legion, Post #278, the Moose Lodge, 186, I.T.A.M. and was a life member of both the V.F.W. Post 1090 and the Naus Club.

     Jerry is survived by four children, Dianna P. (Bruce) Brosi of Philadelphia, Pa., Dennis T. (Ann) Fleming, Sr., of Monaca, Pa., Sandra L. (Les) Yocum of Howland and Robin S. (Joe) Martorana of Bristolville; four grandchildren, Michael J. Yocum, Tami (Ken) Pauley, Dennis (Karie) Fleming, Jr., and Alyssa (David) Strickland, 5 great grandchildren, Ashlee Pauley, Jacob Pauley, Breia Fleming, Kenzie Fleming and Levin Fleming; and 2 great great grandchildren, Levi  and Luke. .

     Besides his parent, Jerry was preceded in death by his wife of 74 years, the former Elsie “Sue” J. Giura whom he married on August 8, 1941, died, December 30, 2015; a brother Ernie Fleming; a sister, Peggy Long; and a step-brother, Woodrow Bright.

     Family and friends may call on Thursday, January 3, 2019 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Peters Rossi and Son Memorial Chapel, 1884 North Road NE in Warren and on Friday, from 9:00 to 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home. 

     Following the Mass of Christian Burial, full military honors will be conducted by the Navy and the American Legion, Post 540 at All Souls Cemetery.   

     Jerry will always be remembered and loved by his family and friends.  It won’t be unusually to see him at home working in his yard, cooking, baking and doing crafts. He enjoyed playing bocce and going to see movies.
