Strongsville, Ohio: There will be a memorial service on Monday, November 19, 2012 at 12:00 noon at Thompson Funeral Home, 4221 Market Street, Boardman, for Dorothy C. Hoover, 100 who passed away peacefully Wednesday evening, November 14, 2012 at Kemper House in Strongsville, one month after celebrating her 100th birthday with family and friends.

Dorothy was born on October 14, 1912, in Youngstown, Ohio the daughter of the late William and Jessie (Collins) Clark. She graduated from South High School in 1930 and lived in the Youngstown area before moving to Strongsville a year ago. She married Edwin E. Hoover, on January 31, 1940. Mr. Hoover passed away January 4, 1973, after a long business career as president of Canfield Manufacturing Company. Subsequently, Dorothy served as president of the company.

She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Youngstown, and belonged to the Women's Society. Dorothy was a charter member of PEO Chapter CE, a national organization supporting women's education. She particularly enjoyed her volunteer work in literacy programs for children and adults. Her love of travel led her to many regions of the world, including the Far East, Africa, Europe, and Australia.

Dorothy will be remembered for her great generosity to her family and friends. She was a devoted mother to her three daughters: Gail E. Hoover (Bob Safarz) of Cleveland, Ohio, Laurelle H. Palmer of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, and Karen L. Hoover M.D. of New York City. She also leaves three grandchildren: Reed Palmer, Eric (Lauren) Palmer, and Eric (Claudia) Safarz, three great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her brother William C. Clark and sister, Doris Mae Antonucci.

Family and friends may call on Monday, November 19, 2012 from 10:00 a.m. to 12 noon at Thompson Funeral Home, Boardman. A memorial service will be held at noon at the funeral home.
