Darwynd Wise Blackstone, Jr.

Concord Township: Darwynd Wise Blackstone, Jr., 93 known as "Blackie' of Concord Township, Ohio formerly of Argonne Drive, Austintown, died Tuesday evening, April 16, 2013 at his residence.

He was born March 17, 1920 in Youngstown, the son of the late Darwynd W. and Marie (Edwards) Blackstone, Sr.

Darwynd was raised in the Youngstown area and moved to Concord Township in June of 2012. He graduated from South High School in 1938.

He was a veteran of the Army. He participated in the D-Day invasion as a member of a Combat Engineer Battalion during World War II.

Darwynd was an electricial engineer with Wean United in Warren for over 28 years, retiring in 1982.

He was a member of the former Central Christian Church in Youngstown and attended Paul Easton Church at Glenellen, North Lima. Darwynd was a Mason with the Wick Lodge #481 F. & A.M., Scottish Rite Bodies, the American Legion Post #290 of Columbiana, the VFW National Member at Large and a member of the Mahoning Valley Amateur Radio Association.

His wife of 48 years, the former Betty E. McMurray whom he married on June, 21, 1947, died October 19, 1995.

Darwynd is survived by two sons; Roger M. (Barbara) Blackstone of Chardon, Ohio and Randy A. (Rebecca) Blackstone of Columbus, Ohio, four grandchildren; Jeremy (Maureen) Blackstone, Jennifer Blackstone and Fiance' James Currence, Nathan Blackstone and Kevin Blackstone, a brother Robert Blackstone of San Antonio, Texas, a sister Adele Glass of Ontario, California and his extended family Tim Nells, Lori Nells, and Tammy (Pat) Dowling.

Besides his parents and wife, Darwynd was preceded in death by a sister Launa Crownover.

Family and friends may call on Saturday, April 20, 2013 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Thompson Funeral Home, 4221 Market Street, Boardman. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

The family requested that material tributes take the form of contributions to Hospice of Western Reserve, 5786 Heisley Road, Mentor, Ohio 44060 or to Paul Easton Church at Glenellen, 9661 Market Street, North Lima, Ohio 44452 in memory of Darwynd.
