Boardman: There will be funeral services on Thursday, October 25, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Simon Road Church of God, 4750 Simon Road, Boardman for Carl C. Blackson, 87, who died Monday morning, October 22, 2012 at Beeghly Oaks Skilled Nursing Center surrounded by his family.

He was born November 3, 1924 in Fredonia, Pennsylvania, the youngest of seven children to Theodore and Bessie (Mickey) Blackson.

Carl and his wife of 68 years, the former Lois E. Trezona, whom he married in September, 1944, moved from their farm outside Fredonia, Pa. to Mercer, Pa.in 1951.

Carl bought a barn and began Blackson weekly auction in August, 1952. He obtained his Auctioneer License in 1954. He later built Blackson's Furniture store and Mercer Bowling Alley.

Carl moved his family to Boardman, Ohio in 1970. He was a school bus driver for the Boardman Local School District for 15 years.

He resumed weekly auctions in Mercer, Pa. from September 1983 through 1995. Carl handled many estate auctions in NE Ohio and Western Pa. over the years. In 1997, he was given "Recognition of Honor" by the Northwest Chapter of the Pennsylvania Auctioneer Association.

Carl was an active member of the Simon Road Church of God for over 42 years, serving as youth leader and a member of the Board of Trustees. He bowled in the Lutheran Men's Bowling League for 20 years. He and his wife, enjoyed many years in the Boardman Bus Drivers' League also. They enjoyed traveling, especially on Amtrak. The most memorable trip was when Carl was called to "Come on Down" on the Price is Right, and won a grandfather clock which graces their home to this day.

He is survived by his wife, Lois, four children; Elizabeth F. (Wesley) Tell of Pittsburgh, Pa., Jean E. (Howard) Ringer of Mercer, Pa., Rick C. (Mary Jo) Blackson of Canfield, Oh., and Gary J. (Sondra) Blackson of New Springfield, Oh., eight grandchildren; Lisa (Bruce Gold) Rendall, Alex Tell, Jeanna (Jon) Hanna, James (Bethany) Ringer, Jodie (Eric) Mount, Marisa (Bobby) Zitkovic, Jocelyn Blackson, and Jeremy Blackson, and 12 great grandchildren.

Besides his parents, Carl was preceded in death by four brothers; Earl, Alvie, Theodore, and William Blackson, and two sisters Geraldine Nelson-Zahniser and Ruth Krueger.

Family and friends may call on Wednesday, October 24th, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Thompson Funeral Home, 4221 Market Street, Boardman and on Thursday from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the church preceding the Funeral Service at 11:00a.m.
