William G. Mills, Sr., 85
Youngstown: William G. "Billy" Mills, Sr., died Monday, October 1, 2013 at St. Elizabeth Boardman Health Center. Mr. Mills was born May 30, 1928 in Youngstown, a son of Arthur and Isabelle (Hardie) Mills. He grew up in the Youngstown area attending South High School. Mr. Mills was a Structural Iron Worker for Local 207 for 33 years, retiring in 1983. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran receiving an honorable discharge in 1950. Mr. Mills was a member of Mahoning United Methodist Church in Youngstown. He excelled at carpentry, building many fine pieces of furniture that will forever be treasured by his family and was never too busy in his retirement years to help anyone who needed assistance with a home remodeling project. His greatest pleasures in life were family and friends. He regularly enjoyed attending the monthly breakfast meeting of retired Iron Workers, looked forward to family reunions and his grandchildren took pride of place in his life. He will be deeply missed by his wife of 61 years, the former Delores R. "Dee" Harris whom he married October 4, 1952; three sons, William Jr. (Doreen) Mills of Lowellville, Robert (Gretchen) Mills of Pittsburgh, and Thomas (Kathy) Mills of Hubbard; six grandchildren, Justin Mills, Matthew Mills, Meagan Mills, Ryan Mills, Abby Mills and Maggie Mills and his closest and dearest "buddy" who was like a son to him, Eddie Goldner. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Arthur, Robert, and Raymond Mills and one sister Geraldine Dotts. Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 7, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Thompson Funeral Home, 4221 Market Street, Boardman, followed by military services at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
