Wilbur R. Valentine, 90 Youngstown: There will be funeral services on Friday, December 5, 2014 at 6:00 p.m. at Thompson-Filicky Funeral Home, 4221 Market Street, Boardman, for Wilbur Richard Valentine, 90, who died Monday evening, December 1, 2014 at Hospice House with his family by his side. Wilbur was born May 20, 1924 in Alliance, Ohio, the son of the late Daniel A. and Helen M (Lawrence) Valentine. He moved to the Youngstown area in 1925 and graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1942. He was inducted into the Army in 1943 and served with the 102nd Signal Company in France and Germany during World War II. Upon returning from the war, Wilbur worked for the Youngstown Vindicator and earned a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration from Youngstown College in 1952. He went on to work as an Industrial Engineer for Youngstown Sheet & Tube and their affiliates for over 25 years before retiring. Wilbur is survived by his son, Daniel A. (Marianne) Valentine of Canfield; two grandchildren, Dan Valentine and Stephanie Valentine; a sister Norma Bellanti of Bronx, New York. Besides his parents, Wilbur was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, the former Helen L. Mihalko, whom he married on September 9, 1954, died April 3, 1999. Family and friends may call on Friday, December 5, 2014 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Thompson-Filicky Funeral Home, with funeral service to follow. Wilbur enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren and attending their school and sporting activities. He loved sports, going to Mountaineer Casino and Race Track, and was very active though-out his life. He will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved him. The family requests that material tributes take the form of contributions to Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market Street, Boardman, Ohio 44512-2198 in memory of Wilbur.
