Shirley Mae Larson

Austintown: There will be funeral services on Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at 12 noon at Thompson Funeral Home, 4221 Market Street, Boardman for Shirley Mae Larson, 82, formerly of Afton Avenue who died Friday morning, March 15, 2013 at Clare Bridge of Austintown.

Shirley was born September 17, 1930 in Youngstown, the daughter of the late Harry and Evelyn (Hoover) Miller. She was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School and lived the Youngstown area her entire life.

She worked as a cashier for East Ohio Gas Company in Downtown Youngstown before becoming a Dental Assistant for several dentists in the area, before retiring in the early 1990's.

Shirley was a charter member of First Covenant Church, Boardman, where she and her husband, Wesley were married. She was a member of VASA Club , the Saxon Club, and the Monthly Supper Club, for over 40 years. She enjoyed feeding the birds in her yard and growing flowers and working in her garden. Shirley enjoyed singing and was a member of the church choir. She cherished the time spent with family and friends and especially her grandchildren.

Shirley is survived by her husband, Wesley H. Larson of 58 years, whom she married on May 29, 1954, three children; Karl A. Larson of Las Vegas, Nevada, Kenneth P. Larson of Leeburg,Virginia, and Janyce E. (John A.) McGeary of Canfield, five grandchildren; Alexis L. Larson, Tyler W. Larson, Erik P. Larson, John A. McGeary, II, and Jessica E. McGeary.

Besides her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by a brother; Paul N. Miller.

Family and friends may call on Tuesday, March 19, 2013 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and on Wednesday, March 20, 2013 from 11:00 to 12 noon at Thompson Funeral Home, Boardman.

The family requests that material tributes take the form of contributions to Southern Care Hospice, 5401 Ashley Circle, Austintown, Ohio 44515 or the Alzheimer's Association, 3695 Boardman-Canfield Road, Canfield, Ohio 44406.

Special thanks to the staff at Clare Bridge of Austintown for their care, love and support that they gave to Shirley and her family during the preceding months. The family also greatly appreciates the loving care provided by the staff of Southern Care Hospice during this time.
