Youngstown: Ronald Gene Ross, Sr. passed away Tuesday, December 3, 2013 at St. Elizabeth Boardman Health Center with his family by his side. Ron was born April 1, 1934 in Akron, the son of the late Wayne and Helen Ross. He was a steelworker with the Youngstown Sheet & Tube for over 28 years, retiring in 1982. Ron was an Army veteran, serving during the Korean Conflict and later served in the Army National Guard. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, the former Veronica J. Sopik, whom he married on September 27, 1958, two sons, Ronald G. (Cheryl) Ross, Jr. of Boardman and John A. Ross of Youngstown, two brothers George and Patrick and three sisters, Geraldine, Mary and Helen. Besides his parents, Ron was preceded in death by a brother Paul and his step-father George Brooke.
