Obituary

Robert J. "Rob" Johnston, 23 Boardman: Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Thompson-Filicky Funeral Home, 4221 Market Street, Boardman, with Rev. Barry Knaub and Rev. Mark Wimbish officiating, for Robert James Johnston, 23, known by all as "Rob", who died Saturday morning, January 10, 2015 at Hospice House in Poland with his loving family by his side. Rob was born April 8, 1991 in Plano, Texas, the son of Charles H. and Lynn M. Roberts Johnston. He moved to the Youngstown area as an infant. He was a 2010 graduate of Boardman High School where he was a member of the Boardman Spartan Marching Band, Boardman Orchestra, Project Mayhem, Concert Band and Jazz I, II, and III; he was a very talented musician, with his main focus being the guitar. He attended Youngstown State University. Rob was a former member of John Knox Presbyterian Church; where he was involved with the choir, and a current member of Memorial Baptist Church in Poland; where he was a member of the Praise Band and a mentor to many youth. He was a very devoted Christian and touched many with his faith. He was an avid Dallas Cowboy football fan. He is survived by his mother, Lynn M. Johnston of Boardman; his father Charles H. Johnston and his step-mother April Johnston of Greenville, PA; his brother, Seth P. Johnston of Boardman; step-sister Jacquelyn F. Smith of Greenville, PA; grandparents James and Margaret Roberts of Austintown; his girlfriend of seven years, Christy Stare of Poland; several aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends. Rob was preceded in death by his grandparents, Robert and Eleanor Johnston. Family and friends may call on Tuesday, January 13, 2015 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Thompson-Filicky Funeral Home, Boardman and on Wednesday from 10 to 11 at the funeral home.
