Obituary

Youngstown: Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 24, 2011 at Thompson Funeral Home, 4221 Market Street, Boardman for Paul N. Miller, 82 of Youngstown who died Sunday evening at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family. Paul was born September 20, 1928 in Youngstown, a son of the late Harry P. and Evelyn M. Hoover Miller and was a lifelong area resident. Paul graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1946. Following high school he joined the Air Force. He served during the Korean War as a Staff Sergeant and it was there that he met his beloved wife, the former Margaret "Peggy" J Roth who was also serving in the Air Force. They married June 21, 1952 and enjoyed 42 years of marriage until Peggy's death, May 26, 1995. Paul had worked in sales for Truscon Steel, Metal Carbides, and Carmet and retired from Ohio Machinery in 1994. After his retirement, Paul was a courier for Mahoning Medical. He was a former member of the Hillman Lodge #481 F & AM, a member of the Poland Lodge #766 F & AM where he had served as Master in 1973 and 1996. Paul recently received his 50 year award from the Grand Lodge F & AM of Ohio. He was a member of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite where he received the 33 degree in 1982, a former member of the Lamplight Chapter #582 Order of Eastern Star and the Ruth Shrine #64. Paul was also a member of the Aut Mori Grotto where he had been a "Circus Daddy" for many years. Paul was a longtime member of Trinity United Methodist Church. He loved sports and enjoyed watching the Cleveland Browns, Ohio State Buckeyes and the Cleveland Indians. He was an avid golfer and had belonged to the Masonic Golf League. He played and coached softball while in the Air force and also played and coached the softball team of Trinity United Methodist Church. Paul also bowled with the church bowling league. Paul leaves his son, Mark D. (Melissa) Miller of Canfield; 2 daughters, Paula S. (Ed) Farkas of Youngstown , Linda J. (David) Bompage of Boardman; a sister, Shirley Larson of Boardman; 4 grandchildren, Brian Meranto, Nate Farkas, Adam Farkas and Matthew Miller and 5 great grandchildren. Friends may call on Wednesday from 4:30-7:30 p.m. at Thompson Funeral Home, where the Masonic Lodge will have a service at 7:30 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the funeral home.
