Margaret B. Emery Salem – Margaret B. Emery, 91, went to be with her Lord and Savior Saturday, July 26, 2014 at Sterling House in Salem with her family by her side.
Margaret "Peggy" was born July 8, 1923 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the daughter of the late Alfred H. and Grace C. (Gilleland) Bergman. Peggy grew up, married her childhood sweetheart John David Emery, and raised her three children in the Pittsburgh area. She was a devoted and loving wife for 61 years. A homemaker, she was a caring mother who was actively involved in her children's lives. In addition, she was an active member in Our Savior Lutheran Church, Irwin, Pa. Peggy was a member of several community bridge clubs. Along with her husband John, Peggy enjoyed entertaining their many lifelong friends. She spent many years volunteering in various hospitals.
Peggy loved collecting teddy bears, buying purses, and spoiling her 11 grandchildren. She was a supportive and loving grandmother and took great interest in their well- being and future. In her later years she delighted in having 17 great grandchildren.
Peggy is survived by her three children, Susan E. (Walter) Plues of Salem, Ohio, J. David (Beatrice) Emery Jr. of Atlanta, Georgia, Mark J. (Barbara) Emery of Oak Hill, Virginia, 11 grandchildren, and 17 great grandchildren.
Peggy was preceded in death by her husband, John D. Emery Sr., whom she married on December 8, 1943. He died on March 12, 2005.
Calling hours will be held from 10 to 11 am in the parlor of Bethel Lutheran Church, Boardman on Wednesday, July 30, 2014. The funeral service will immediately follow in the church sanctuary at 11am. Arrangements are being handled by Thompson-Filicky Funeral Home, 4221 Market Street Boardman.
