Lola M. Evans, 75 Youngstown: Lola Mae Evans, 75, formerly of Salem and Berlin Center, died early Wednesday morning, March 19, 2014 at St. Elizabeth Health Center.
Lola was born on April 16, 1938 in Johnson City, Tennessee, the daughter of the late Dorothy (Greer) Sluder and step-father Dave Sluder. Her family moved to Washington D.C. where she was a switchboard operator for Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Company in Washington D.C. for over 10 years. Lola came to Berlin Center in the early 1970's with her husband and children and worked for United Telephone Company in Warren, as a long distance operator. She was a member of the Lake Milton Baptist Temple.
In her early years, Lola loved cooking for her family and gardening. She enjoyed crocheting, reading, playing bingo, listening to Christian music, watching TV and loved talking to her family and friends on the telephone, especially her childhood reminiscing with her brother Ronald.
Her husband of 44 years, Marion Earl Evans whom she married on April 16, 1954, died November 24, 1998.
Lola was a caring and loving mother to M. Earl Evans, Jr. of Canfield, Jim (Pam) Evans of Berlin Center and Sharon (John) Fleischer of Plymouth, Michigan. She greatly loved her grandsons James (Bethany) Evans, Jr. of Lacey, Washington and Eric Evans of Berlin Center and her beloved brother, Ronald (Carol Ann) Sluder of Warner Robbins, Georgia, several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Lola was preceded in death by her daughter Karen and husband Marion Earl Evans.
Graveside services will be held at Arlington National Cemetery, Virginia. There are no calling hours.

All who knew Lola will remember her thoughtfulness and caring nature. Her faith in God was un-waivered. She will greatly missed by her family and friends.
The family would like to thank Dr. Lakhani and the caring staff at Camelot Arms Care Center for the love, care and the support that they gave to Lola and her family.
