Obituary

Judith Ellen (Gordon) Weaver passed away on Sunday, October 23rd at Woodlands at Hampton Woods in Poland, OH. The middle daughter of Harold W. and Ruth Oswalt Gordon, Judy was born on May 22, 1927 and was a lifelong resident of Mahoning County.

A 1945 graduate of The Rayen School, Judy was active in high school activities and kept in close contact with her Rayen friends throughout her life. After graduation from Rayen Judy attended Centenary College in Hackettstown, NJ and earned an associate degree in business administration. Upon her return to Youngstown she married Melvin E. Weaver on September 6, 1947 in Brown Memorial Methodist Church and together she and Mel raised two sons and daughter on the west side of Youngstown.

Judy's children were always her priority as she volunteered at Kirkmere Elementary School, served as Cub Scout and Brownie Troop leaders, she was treasurer of the Ohio University Mother's Club of Youngstown, and their home and backyard welcomed the laughter and activities of the neighborhood children and friends of her sons and daughter. Judy, Mel, and children attended Christ United Presbyterian Church and in her later years she joined Zion Lutheran Church in Cornersburg.

In her spare time she enjoyed crossword puzzles and she was a voracious reader. Most of all, Judy's life and enjoyment centered around her family. She cherished the time she spent with them, especially the times with her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents Harold and Ruth, her step mother Mildred Weaver, beloved husband Mel, her sister-in-law Edna Weaver (P.J.) Organ and her oldest sister and a cherished friend Sally Gordon (Russell) Helsel.
