John Hill Boardman: A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 3, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Thompson Funeral Home, 4221 Market Street, Boardman for John Hill, 94, who died Tuesday evening February 21, 2012 at his residence. John was born November 17, 1917 in Polmont Scotland the son of the late Joseph and Flora (MacDonald) Hill. He moved to the United States and the Youngstown area in 1925. He graduated from the Rayen School in 1938 and served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. Following the war, John worked as a test engineer for the U.S. Steel Company for over thirty years, retiring in 1978. John was a member of the Mahoning Valley Management, AOPA of Youngstown, a member of the Foresters, the Fraternal Order of Eagles, #213, Past President of the Boardman Boosters, was a private Pilot and enjoyed playing golf. John is survived by his wife Esther M. Alcroft whom he married on April 14, 1984, a son Robert J. (Diana J.) Hill of Pine Colorado, five grandchildren; Steve (Sarah) Hill, Julie (Joe) Hamel, great grandson Matthew Hamel, Patricia (Bill) Adler, Susan (Bob) Wagner, and Debra Bagnoli, 8 great grandchildren, and 5 great great grandchildren. Besides his parents and his first wife Marion Frank, who died in 1983, John is preceded in death by a sister Hannah Collins. Family and friends may call on Saturday, March 3, 2012 from 10 to 11 a.m. at Thompson Funeral Home, Boardman. The family requests that material tributes take the form of contributions to Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market Street, Boardman, Ohio 44512-2198.
