Jeanne E. Allen Canfield: There will be a Memorial service on Sunday, May 4, 2014 at 4:00 p.m. at Canfield Presbyterian Church, 140 W. Main Street, Canfield for Jeanne Elizabeth Allen, 81 who died on April 17, 2014 surrounded by her loving family. Jeanne, the daughter of the late Eric W. and Margaret (Finnie) Eyster, was born on December 27, 1932 in Youngstown. She graduated from Boardman High School in 1951 and has resided in Canfield since 1955. Along with being a stay at home mother and caregiver for her parents, Jeanne worked in the office for Cold Metal Products Company in Youngstown. She proudly served as a presiding judge for the electoral polls for 35 years. She also worked as the secretary for the Canfield Rotary Club for 20 years, where she received the Paul Harris Fellow Award, and later as the secretary for the Kiwanis Club of Downtown Youngstown for 15 years. Jeanne always enjoyed participating in the Kiwanis Club's annual Radio Auction as well as attending Rotary International Conventions in various cities throughout the United States as well as Birmingham, England, Munich, Germany and Toronto, Canada. Jeanne was an active member of Canfield Presbyterian Church and volunteered her time serving as a Deacon, Trustee, and member of the Missions and Fellowship Committees. She also taught Sunday School for many years. Not only did she devote herself to serving her church community, Jeanne volunteered for the Mahoning County CASA program, where she touched the lives of numerous children throughout the Valley, and served as a Girl Scout troop leader, where she taught her troop valuable life skills through camping and home economics. Jeanne enjoyed being social and spending time with many of her friends throughout the area. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and the Holborn Herb Growers Guild. She was well known for her beautiful and extravagant herb gardens. Jeanne had a love for antiques and enjoyed collecting and dealing in them at antique shows throughout the country. She enjoyed playing bridge, mahjong and travelling. Her most memorable trip being to Bogota, Colombia for her son's wedding in 1982. She is survived by her loving husband and best friend of 59 years, James R. Allen, Sr., whom she married on April 16, 1955, three children; James R. Allen, Jr., and Claudia Allen, his wife, and Charles R. Allen, all of Canfield and Meg J. Evans of Hubbard, 4 grandchildren; James R. Allen, III, Cristina (Jeremy) Kennedy, both of Dallas, Texas, Tanna D. (Andrew) Angyal, and Evan A. Evans, both of Hubbard, a brother Earl R. Eyster of Tucson, Arizona and a sister Nancy G. (Phillip) Rakestraw of Chesapeake, Virginia; her Rotary exchange student children; Nelson Velverde of West Newbury, Mass., and Joao R. Pereira of Sao Paulo, Brazil, and her beloved and very spoiled cat, Lunie. Family and friends are invited to call one hour prior to the memorial service on May 4, 2014 at Canfield Presbyterian Church. A dinner will follow to celebrate the joyous life of Jeanne Allen with her family and friends.
