James H. McBride, Jr., 88 Austintown: James Henry McBride Jr., 88, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, January 20, 2015 at Austinwoods Nursing Center with his sister, Gladys and Pastor Dave by his side. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, February 4, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Thompson-Filicky Funeral Home, 4221 Market Street, Boardman with Pastor Dave Fidram officiating. Family and friends may call one hour prior to the service. Pastor Joel Theis will conduct the committal service at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, followed by a military service. Jim was born March 4, 1926 in Youngstown, the son of the late James H. and Gladys L. (Haag) McBride, Sr. He graduated from South High School in 1944. Jim entered the Army in 1945 and later enlisted into the Air Force in 1947, as a staff sergeant during World War II and was stationed in Japan. After leaving the service, Jim joined the Army Reserves and went to Niagara Falls, New York and worked for the Military Supply as a supply technician for several years before returning to the Youngstown area. He worked for several steel mills in the area, before retiring. He was a former member of Foster Memorial Presbyterian Church in Youngstown. Jim enjoyed kites and was an avid kite builder and flyer. At Austinwoods, Jim had a kite displayed in his room and the staff and visitors enjoyed seeing it. He and his brother, Arthur, liked to build model airplanes and displayed them from the ceiling in their room at home. Jim was a kind and caring man, enjoyed talking to people, and was a good brother and a friend to all. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Jim is survived by two brothers, Arthur W. "Mac" (Ellie) McBride of Westlake and David A. McBride of Mira Loma, California; his beloved sister, Mrs. Gladys B. (Little) VanDyke of Canfield; and several nieces and nephews, Tammie (Eric) Scheider of Maple Heights, Jeff McBride of Cleveland, Lori (Cruz) Rosario of Youngstown, Doreen McBride of Boardman, Christopher (Maureen) Yambar, Tim Yambar, Sharon Yambar, all from Youngstown, and Katie Davis of Austintown; and several great nieces and nephews; Michael McBride, Salina McBride, Justin "Jay" Davis, Brandon Davis, Jana Davis and Joseph "Joey" Vaught; four great great nephews, Anthony, Jason Paul, Dominic, and Aiden Matthew. Besides his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his brothers-in-law, Dean Little and Larry VanDyke, whom he loved.
