Hoy F. Wine, 84 Poland: There will be funeral services on Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2015 at 2 p.m. at Thompson Filicky Funeral Home, 4221 Market St., with Rev. Mike Byus officiating for, Hoy F. Wine, 84, who died Sunday morning, Nov. 29, 2015 at his residence with his family by his side. Family and friends may call on Wednesday, from 12 noon to 2 p.m. at the funeral home. The Ellsworth V.F.W. Post #9571 will conduct a military graveside service at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, following the funeral service. Hoy was born February 24, 1931 in Orlando, WV, the son of the late John L. and Violet (Hinkle) Wine. He graduated from Burnsville, High School in WV and later entered into the Army, serving during the Korean Conflict. After serving in the Army, Hoy worked for Union Carbide Corp., in WV. He moved to the Youngstown area and worked for Grief Brothers Corp for 47 years, retiring in 1997. He was a member of New Covenant Worship Center, Church of the Nazarene. Hoy was a shadetree mechanic and enjoyed working on cars. He was always willing to give a helping hand to anyone with car problems and helped children with their bicycle repairs. Hoy was an avid NASCAR fan and enjoyed bluegrass music. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, the former Mary F. Skinner, whom he married on November 7, 1954; two daughters, Connie J. and husband Brian S. Carter of Sherrills Ford, NC, and Carol S. Wine of Boardman; three granddaughters, Austin M. Carter-Sigmon, Ashley D. Carter, and Bailey K. Potocki; two great grandchildren, Michaiah R. Sigmon and Gavin Franklin Fleischer; 2 sisters, Emogene Blake of Poland and Madeline (Ray) Geyer of Iowa; two brothers Verdine L. (Ruby) Wine of Youngstown and Johnnie (Madge) Wine of Buckhannon, WV. Besides his parents, Hoy was preceded in death by two brothers, Doyle Wine and Gerry Wine; 2 sisters, Arlene Conrad and Geraldine Brown. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that material tributes take the form on contributions to Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market Street, Boardman, Oh. 44512, in memory of Hoy.
