Howard Charles Karr
Youngstown: Funeral Services will be held on Friday, July 29, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Thompson Funeral Home, 4221 Market Street, Boardman for Howard Charles Karr, 87 who died Monday morning, July 25, 2011 at his residence at Park Vista.
He was born September 5, 1923 in Sharon, Pennsylvania, the son of the late Frank M. and Isabelle E. (Turner) Karr.
Howard graduated from Sharon High School in 1941 and from Penn State in 1951 and later moved to the Youngstown area.
He was a Retired Air Force Major, serving in the Air Force during World War II.
Howard was a Metallurgist for Ohio Works of U.S. Steel, Youngstown for 30 years, retiring in 1981.
He was a member of Faith Community Church, a committee man for the Republican Party, a member of the Air Force Association, the American Society of Metals (A.S.M.), the Chatterbox Club and Sigma Phi Sigma Fraternity of Penn State.
His wife, the former E. Jeanne Rummell whom he married on March 17, 1962, died July 20, 2011.
Howard is survived by a brother Walter T. (Yvonne) Karr of Austintown, a sister Yvonne J. Hassell of West Middlesex, Pa., a granddaughter Carlie Allison of Palmyra, Pa.
Besides his parents and wife, Howard was preceded in death by a son Charles Allison, and a sister Phyllis J. Grove.
Friends may call on Thursday, July 28, 2011 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Thompson Funeral Home, Boardman and on Friday, one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
The family requests that material tributes take the form of contributions to Faith Community Church, 1919 E. Midlothian Blvd. Youngstown, Ohio 44502
