Gretchen Mary Bissell, 95

Youngstown: Gretchen Mary Bissell, who just celebrated her 95th birthday, died Wednesday evening, December 25, 2013 at Heritage Manor with her loving family by her side.

Gretchen was born December 18, 1918 in Mansfield, Ohio, the daughter of the late John and Bessie (Mace) Fulwider. She moved to the Youngstown area in 1942. She was a cook for the YMCA in Youngstown and later worked as a caregiver for elderly people in their homes.

She was a member of Highway Tabernacle Church, where she worked in the nursery for many years.

Her husband of 31 years, Lee C. Bissell, whom she married on June 12, 1943, died September 24, 1974.

Gretchen is survived by two daughters, Sandra L. (I.B.) Lunsford-Harmon of Lancaster, Kentucky and Sharon Y. John of Youngstown, two sons, Stewart E. (Darlene) Bissell and Stanley L. Bissell, both of Youngstown, 9 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.

Besides her parents and husband, Gretchen was preceded in death by a son Stephen C. Bissell, two sisters, Marilyn Farquharson and Barbara Whitmore and a brother Jack Fulwider.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 30, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Thompson Funeral Home, 4221 Market Street, Boardman.

Family and friends may call on Sunday, December 29, 2013 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Thompson Funeral Home and on Monday, from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
