Obituary

Gladys B. Banks

Boardman:  Gladys B. Banks, 93, of Boardman Boulevard passed away peacefully Sunday morning, May 7, 2017 with her loving daughters by her side after a long journey with dementia / Alzheimers, at Hampton Woods Nursing Center in Poland, where she had been a resident for over three years after a broken knee left her unable to walk.

Gladys was born January 3, 1924 in Youngstown, the daughter of George and Pansy (Counterman) Spencer, the youngest of seven children.

In June of 1948, she married Robert J. Banks (deceased 2013) beginning her life of devotion to family as they raised their three daughters, Judith L. (Richard) Patterson of Canfield, Deborah J. (Frank) Buday of Swansboro, NC and Kelley R. Belfast of Boardman in the home they built and loved.  Gladys enjoyed a lifelong love of stitching, from tailored clothing in her teens to the hand pieced and appliqued quilts she created well into her 80's.  Every stitched of over 50 quilts infused with love she had for her daughters and husband.

She is survived by a granddaughter, Jennifer (Chris) Bokelman, and three great grandchildren, Sam, Lucy, and Elliott.  Seeing the sweet faces of the great grandchildren brought smiles to her face and joy to her heart.

Private funeral services were held for Gladys.  There are no calling hours.
