Obituary

Esther M. Alcroft Hill Boardman: There will be a memorial service on Saturday, July 25, 2015 at 1 p.m. at Thompson Filicky Funeral Home, 4221 Market Street, Boardman for Esther M. Alcroft Hill, 95, who died Friday evening, July 17, 2015 at Saint Elizabeth Boardman Health Center. Esther was born June 4, 1920 in Youngstown, the daughter of the late Louis P. and Jessie B. (Linville) Groeschen. She graduated from The Rayen School and attended Youngstown State Business College. Esther moved to the Canton area and volunteered at the Canton Garden Center, where she co-chaired two Christmas Shows. She taught floral design and craft classes at Lamrite's Arts & Crafts in North Canton. She loved gardening, playing bridge, reading and flowers. Over the years, Esther belonged to many gardening and bridge clubs, both in Canton and Youngstown. Esther was known as "The Cookie Lady", she made many thousands of cookies for holidays, for shut-ins, family and friends. She is survived by a son, Robert J. Hill of Pine, Colorado; 5 grandchildren, Patricia (Bill) Adler of Hermitage, Pa., Susan (Bob) Wagner of Nixa, Missouri, Debra Bagnoli of Dayton Beach, Florida, Steve (Sarah) Hill, and Julie Hill, both of Colorado; 9 great grandchildren, 14 great great grandchildren; a niece, Barbara Dean and friend, Jack Anderson, both of Youngstown; and a great nephew, Mark Dean of Florida. Besides her parents, Esther was preceded in death by her first husband, Albert Alcroft, Jr., whom she married in 1938, passed away on May, 1983, her husband, John Hill whom she married on April 14, 1984, passed away on February 21, 2012; a daughter, Helen "Judy" Warder; son-in-law George Warder; her infant son David L. Alcroft; a brother Charles "Pete" Groschen; and a sister Louise Vaughan. Family and friends may call on Saturday, July 25, 2015 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Thompson Filicky Funeral Home, with memorial service to follow at 1 p.m. The family requests that material tributes take the form of contributions to Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market Street, Boardman, Ohio 44512-2198 in memory of Esther.
