Obituary

Dorothy Jane "Dottie" Faith, 91 Youngstown: There will be funeral services on Saturday, October 24, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Tabernacle Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 2432 S. Raccoon Rd., Austintown with Rev. Gary Koerth officiating for Dorothy J. Faith, 91, who died peacefully Tuesday morning, October 20, 2015 at Park Vista Retirement Center with her family by her side. Dottie was born May 6, 1924 in Galesburg, Illinois, the daughter of the late John Michael and Nora Elizabeth (Briscoe) Van Liew. She graduated high school in Hanover, Indiana, Purdue University with a degree in dietetics and later completed graduate studies from Kent State University. Dottie began her teaching career in Indiana and later moved to the Youngstown area. She taught 14 years for Youngstown Schools, mostly at Adams Junior High. Dottie was a long-time active member of Tabernacle Evangelical Presbyterian Church, served as treasurer, Sunday school teacher, librarian and with her husband Dale, started a food pantry ministry. She started volunteering in the late 1970's for the Needles Eye Christian Counseling Center. For many years she was active in the Youngstown Coalition of Christians and built many bridges across racial and denominational lines. Dottie is survived by her five children, Mike (Beth) Faith of West Lafayette, Indiana, Betsy (Jim) LaRiccia of Austintown, Carolyn Custer of Sherrodsville, Bill (Barb Poppe) Faith of Columbus, Peggy (Bill) Smith of Schererville, Indiana; 11grandchildren Eric (Autumn) Faith, Mindy (Daniel) Stephens, Rachael (Todd) Barkan, Nathan (Lauren) LaRiccia, Dawn LaRiccia, Michelle (Nate) Laughhunn, Elise (Zeeshan Paracha) Faith, Ben Faith, Stacy (Scott) Laubhan, Sarah (Steve) Dowd, Dylan Smith; 14 great grandchildren, Calvin, Juliet, Bethany, Macy, Brooke, Grace, Brielle, Dexter, Jesse, Christian, Tori, Ryan, Luke and Eliza; a sister Libby Sellars of Milwaukee, Wisconsin and dear friend, Betty Hogan of Dearborn, Michigan. Besides her parents, Dottie was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years Dale C. Faith, whom she married on March 1, 1946, died March 2, 1993, son-in-law, Keith Custer and brother-in-law, Bob Sellars. Friends and family may call on Friday, Oct. 23, 2015 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Thompson~ Filicky Funeral Home, 4221 Market Street, Boardman and on Sat. from 9:30 to 10:00 a.m. at the church.
