Dora Jean
Jones
Jul 1, 1934 — Jun 30, 2026
Youngstown — It is with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to our beloved Dora Jean (Vaupel) Jones, affectionately known as "Auntie" or simply "Aunt Dora."
Dora passed away on June 30, 2026, at Aventura Care Facility in North Lima, just one day before her 92nd birthday.
Dora was born on July 1, 1934, to John and Pearl (McElwain) Vaupel. She was the youngest of five children.
She graduated from South High School as a member of the Class of 1952. Following graduation, Dora began her career at Dollar Savings and Trust Company. She later worked for Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield, where she retired after 34 years of dedicated service.
Dora was always known for her flawless appearance and impeccable wardrobe. She truly dressed to impress—and she certainly did!
On August 17, 1957, Dora married the love of her life, Donald P. "Red" Jones, following his return from serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
Dora and Red shared a wonderful life together and enjoyed traveling extensively. Among their favorite destinations were Ireland, England, Mexico, Barbados, Las Vegas, and Florida.
For many years, they spent part of each summer along the shores of Lake Erie, especially in Madison and Geneva-on-the-Lake. Dora spoke fondly of her time at "the lake" right up until the end. Together, they enjoyed playing cards, visiting casinos, and spending time with family and friends. Dora was also a competitive bridge player for many years.
Red passed away on January 7, 2022, after 64 years of marriage. Their relationship was a beautiful example of true love, devotion, and admiration for one another.
In addition to her parents and her beloved husband, Dora was preceded in death by her siblings: Kenneth (Elizabeth) Vaupel, Bethel Jack Rowbatham, Mary Ellen (Howard) Moore, and Elizabeth McNally.
Dora lived a truly charmed life. She was rarely without a smile and was deeply loved by her family and many friends. Most of all, she was cherished by her many nieces and nephews on both her side of the family and Red's. They will forever treasure the memories they shared with her. She will be deeply missed.
The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to the caring staffs of Assumption Village and Aventura Villages for the compassion and kindness shown to Dora.
In accordance with Dora's wishes, no funeral or public services will be held. She was laid to rest at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Boardman.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the professional care of Thompson-Filicky Funeral Home, 4221 Market Street, Boardman.
