Donald McKenzie Abblett, 87

Poland: Donald McKenzie Abblett, 87, died Sunday morning, July 28, 2013 at Sunrise of Poland.

He was born on May 30, 1926 in Youngstown, Ohio, the son of the late McKenzie and Nell (Lewis) Abblett. He graduated from Canfield High School and attended Buckeye Technical Institute.

Donald was a Army Veteran, serving during World War II.

He was a millwright at Youngstown Sheet & Tube for over 29 years and later worked for Boardman Steel for 11 years, retiring in 1989.

Donald was a member of the woodcarvers in Youngstown, the Akron Karting Club and a member of the Brigade of the American Revolution. He was an avid gardener, who enjoyed working in his vegetables and flower gardens and enjoyed the great outdoors. He loved following the Cleveland Indians and NASCAR racing.

His wife of 58 years, the former Helen Elizabeth Black whom he married on September 18, 1948, died October 4, 2006.

Donald is survived by three children; Linda L. (David) Genuske and Ronald R. (Charlotte) Abblett, both of Canfield, Kimberly K. (Greg) Molnar of North Lima, a sister Carol Ryan of Canfield and 8 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

Besides his parents and wife, Donald is preceded in death by a brother Paul Abblett.

Family and friends may call on Wednesday, July 31, 2013 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Thompson Funeral Home, 4221 Market Street, Boardman. Private funeral services will be held on Thursday.
