Dean H. DuVall, 89
Columbiana: There will be funeral services on Thursday, January 19, 2017 at 1:00 pm at Thompson Filicky Funeral Home, 4221 Market Street, Boardman, for Dean H. DuVall, 89, who passed away Friday evening, January 13, 2017 at Parkside Health Care Center with his family by his side.
Dean was born August 7, 1927 in New Galilee, Pa., the son of the late Rev. Benjamin A. and Virgie (Vance) DuVall.
He worked for Ohio Bell Telephone Company for 37 years, retiring as an Outside Plant Foreman in 1983. Dean was the caretaker for Paradise United Church of Christ Cemetery for over 40 years, retiring in 1984.
He was a lifelong member of the Nazarene Church. Dean sang at various churches in the area as well for the Ohio Bell Production.
Dean served in the Navy during World War II, having served on the U.S.S. Ancon and the U.S.S. Ponaganset.
Dean is survived by his wife of 7 ½ years,, the former Juanita Mae Anderson Hughes DuVall, whom he married on February 9, 2009; four children, Rev. Leslie "Les" D. (Chris) DuVall of Bluemont, Virginia, Sarah A. (Larry) Goehring, Columbus, Darrell D. (Jeanne) DuVall of New Waterford, Larry Paul DuVall of Monks Corner, South Carolina; 3 step-children, Diane R. (Jack) Kechler of Boardman, Elinda D. (Terry) Frazier of Poquoson, Virginia, and Clyde R. (Malva) Hughes of Edinburg, Pa.; 11 grandchildren, 8 step-grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren and 20 step-great grandchildren.
Besides his parents, Dean was preceded in death by his first wife of 61 years, the former Doris Shaffer, whom he married on September 1, 1947, died April 7, 2008; two sons, John A. DuVall and L. Allen DuVall; four brothers, Nile DuVall, Harold DuVall, Dale DuVall and Herbert DuVall and his sister, Erma Davis.
Family and friends may call on Wednesday, January 18, 2016 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Thompson Filicky Funeral Home, 4221 Market Street in Boardman.
The Ellsworth V.F.W. Post # 9571 will conduct a military service on Thursday at Paradise Cemetery following the funeral service at the funeral home.
The family requests that material tributes take the form of contributions to The Global Mission, Church of the Nazarene, Meso America Region, in care of The Slingerland Family in memory of Dean
