David Emlyn
Jones
January 30, 1949 – July 31, 2024
David Emlyn Jones passed away peacefully on July 31st, 2024.
Dave is survived by his wife of 29 years, Claire; his sons, James Jones (Amy) of Glenview, IL, and Scott Jones of Atlanta, GA; his stepsons, Justin Davis (Kelly) of Denver, CO and Ryan Davis (Katie) of New York City, NY; his three grandchildren, Hadley, Carter and Davis Jones; and his two nieces and four nephews.
Dave was born on January 30th, 1949, in Youngstown, Ohio to the late James Emlyn Jones and the late Alberta Jones Bowser. He was also predeceased by his four brothers, Richard Eugene Jones, Russell Emlyn Jones, James Lewis Jones and William Thomas Jones.
Dave graduated from South High School in Youngstown, OH. He attended Denison College to play basketball and graduated from THE Ohio State University with an undergraduate and a Masters degree in Economics. Always loyal to his roots, he was a lifelong Buckeye fan, served on the Ohio State Department of Economics Advisory Board and in recent years, established a scholarship (named after his childhood friend) to send a student from Youngstown to Ohio State. Dave's consulting career sent him from Columbus to Boston and ultimately Atlanta where he opened the Temple, Barker and Sloane office and eventually Jones Management Consulting. It was there Dave settled, raised his family and developed a passion for the Atlanta Braves. The entrepreneurial spirit ran deep in him. In the mid-1970s, Dave created Midwest Basketball News, a recruiting magazine, and in his retirement years, Dave obtained a Masters of Finance from Georgia State, CFP license and started Clifftop Financial Partners.
Dave was a coach, an adventurer and a fighter. He coached his boys at all levels for basketball from many years at the Roswell Rec league and state AAU tournaments and later in life, in the business world, served an executive coach. He was an avid traveler who visited over 100 different countries with curiosity and excitement. He bravely and graciously fought against Parkinson's / PSP for fifteen years, never letting the disease and associated challenges deter his leadership or his spirit.
To know Dave was to be his friend. He created lasting friendships with teammates, neighbors, classmates and co-workers from every stop along his journey and lived by the mantra, 'relationship before task.' Dave was a man of faith and an active member of Northminster Presbyterian Church, serving as a deacon, elder and Sunday School teacher. Most importantly, Dave was an incredible and loyal husband and father (Pop). Nothing made him happier than the simple joys of spending time with his family and friends, watching a game, eating pizza and ice cream. Dave was a friend and mentor to all and will be missed by those who had the good fortune to know him.
Funeral: 3:00pm on Friday, August 9th at Northminster Presbyterian Church, 2400 Old Alabama Road, Roswell, GA 30076.
