Clara L. Vekas, 101

New Middletown:  There will be a memorial service on Sunday, August 19, 2018, at 3 pm at Thompson Filicky Funeral Home, 4221 Market Street in Boardman with Reverend Michael Smith officiating for Clara L. Vekas, 101, formerly of Girard, passed away Sunday evening, August 12, 2018 at Masternick Memorial Health Care Center with her family by her side.

Clara was born April 16, 1917 in Jefferson, Pennsylvania, the daughter of the late James L. and Harriet (Bradburg) Armstrong.

She moved to the area in in 1940.

Clara is survived by her son, Ronald J (Martha) Vekas of North Lima; two granddaughters, Paula (David) Ritter and Cherie; a great granddaughter Mary and a great grandson, John.

Besides her parents, Clara was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Michael Vekas whom she married on June 8, 1937, died August 20, 1990; 6 brothers and 3 sisters.

The family requests that material tributes take the form of contributions to Masternick Memorial Health Care Center, 5250 Windsor Way, New Middletown, Ohio  44442 in memory of Clara.
