Obituary

Carl T. McKnight, 103 Boardman- There will be funeral services at 11 am., Friday April 22 at Bethel Lutheran Church, 425 Crestview Drive, Boardman for Carl T. McKnight. He passed away early Tuesday morning with his family at his bedside at Shepherd of the Valley in Boardman. Carl was born September 8, 1907 on a farm near Transfer, Penna.. The son of Albert C. and Emma Lawrence McKnight. As a young man, Carl was interested in trains. He began working for the Erie Railroad. After spending 24 years as a train dispatcher he retired in 1958. In his retirement, he and his wife Iola built, owned, and operated the Reynolds Drive In Theater from 1958 to 1972. He also developed the Reynolds Bowling Lane in 1958. In addition Carl and Iola also built, owned and operated The Reynolds Plaza from 1963 to 1976. Carl als worked for the Canfield Auto Auction until the age of 90. Carl is known for his love for God, friends, family and life. He was very active in Foster Memorial Memorial church until its closing. He was a Mason for 69 years and belonged to the Poland Lodge #766 F&AM. He was also an active member of the Aut Mori Grotto, where he received the honor of Prophet of the year. His hobbies included history, reading about the Civil War and railroads. He loved traveling with his wife visiting Mexico and Canada and wintering in Florida. Carl graduated from Cortland High School in 1928. He attended Youngstown Business College, where he met the love of his life, Iola. They were married June 9, 1934. They had over sixty years of wedded bliss before Iola passed away on June 18, 1999. Carl leaves two daughters, Carol (James) Coalmer and Kay Sandrock. He leaves 5 grandchildren, Karrie (Mark) Taylor, Lorrie (Al) Todd, Carlene (Rich) Chapella, Russell (Lorraine) Coalmer, and Jerry(Amy) Sandrock. He also leaves 14 great grandchildren and one great- great grandchild, and several nieces and nephews. Carl was preceded in death by his wife Iola and brothers, Laurence, John, Clarence and a sister Marian Stoyer and a grandchild Carl Sandrock. To the kind hearts and precious hands that took care of Carl we would like to thank everyone at Shepherd of the Valley, Boardman and Hospice of the Valley from the bottom of our hearts. Friends may call from 5 to 8 PM. Thursday at Thompson Funeral Home and one hour before the service Friday in Memorial Hall at Bethel Luthern Church.
