Barend "Ben" R. Vanden Bosch, 54 There will be funeral services on Friday, Nov. 6, 2015 at 10 a.m. at Thompson-Filicky Funeral Home, 4221 Market Street, Boardman, with Rev. Fr. Christopher Coughlin officiating for Barend R. Vanden Bosch, 54 who died suddenly Sunday afternoon, Nov. 1, 2015 at St. Elizabeth Boardman Health Center. Barend, known as "Ben" was born March 9, 1961 in Youngstown, the son of the late Harry F. and H. Joanne (McDonald) Vanden Bosch. He graduated from Boardman High School in 1979, where he played the violin and piano in the Orchestra andthe keyboard in the Jazz Ensemble. In 1995, Ben graduated from the Western Reserve Police Academy and worked for the Mahoning County Sheriff Department for 20 years. He started in the corrections department, and later became a Deputy Sheriff, working at the Court House. Ben worked for Thompson-Filicky Funeral Home as a funeral attendant. Prior to becoming a Deputy Sheriff, he was the manager for Kerrigan's Nursey, for over 4 years. Ben enjoyed playing music in high school and played in several area bands. He was a member of the Backstreets Band, traveling around the country, playing the keyboard and fiddle for over ten years. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge # 141. A mason with Poland Lodge #766 F. & A.M. He enjoyed fishing, camping, cooking, barbecuing and spending time with his family and friends. Ben is survived by the love of his life, of 37 years, the former Wendie L. Sample whom he married on July 28, 1984, two daughters, Jaimie L. (Brandon) Baker of New Castle, Pa., and Kasey R. Vanden Bosch of Columbus; three sisters, Vicki (Mark) Rossi and Joyce (Jim) Bailing, both of Canfield and Karen (Ben) Olsen of Warren; 9 nieces and nephews and several great nieces and nephews and two furry friends at home, Mollie and Pickle. Besides his parents, Ben was preceded in death by a brother, Carel R. Vanden Bosch. Family and friends may call today, Nov. 5, 2015 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. at Thompson-Filicky Funeral Home, Boardman. The masons from Poland Lodge # 766 F. & A.M. will conduct a masonic service at 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests material tributes take the form of contributions to Michael Hartzell Memorial Scholarship Fund c/o YSU Foundation, 655 Wick Ave. Youngstown, Oh 44502 in memory of Ben.
