Arnold Lisle Shotts

Youngstown: There will be funeral services on Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Gibson Heights Second Presbyterian Church, 755 E. Dewey Avenue, Youngstown for Arnold Lisle Shotts, 91 who died from cancer on Friday evening, May 25, 2012 at his residence surrounded by his family.

He was born July 2, 1920 in Tylersberg, Pennsylvania, the son of the late Saul and Margaret (Lisle) Shotts and stepmother Catherine (Mayfield) Shotts. Arnold grew up on the west side of Youngstown and graduated from Chaney High School in 1940.

He served in the C.C. Camp in 1940 and was an U.S. Army Veteran, serving during World War II from 1942 to 1945.

He worked for the Pittsburgh & Lake Erie Railroad for 36 years, retiring on July 25, 1981.

Arnold attended Gibson Heights Second Presbyterian Church, where he belong to the Sunday school bowling league and played the church organ. He formerly attended Christian Missionary Alliance Church in Youngsatown. He loved to golf and built his own home. He loved to make and repair things that were broke and if he could not fix them, they were really broke. Arnold was a Jack of all trades.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 61 years, the former Bessie Louise Gerner, whom he married on January 2, 1951, a daughter Gloria Jean Ciszewski and son-in-law Felix Michael Ciszewski of Coitsville, a son Raymond E. Shotts and daughter-in-law Mary Shotts of Columbiana, two grandchildren Dennise Shotts and Eric Shotts, a brother Warren (Darlene) Shotts of Powder Springs, Georgia.

Besides his parents, and step-mother, Arnold was preceded in death by two brothers Myron Shotts and Ross Shotts, three sisters Ruth McMahan, Mary Louise Fleischer and Zelda Shotts.

Family and friends may call on Tuesday, May 29, 2012 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Thompson Funeral Home, 4221 Market Street, Boardman and on Wednesday, May 30, 2012 form 10 to 11 a.m. at Gibson Heights Presbyterian Church.

The family requests that material tributes take the form of contributions to Gibson Heights Second Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund, 755 E. Dewey Avenue, Youngstown, Ohio 44502 or to Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market Street, Boardman, Ohio 44512-2198.

The Shotts family would like to thank our family, friends and Hospice of the Valley for their prayers, care and support they gave to Arnold and his family during this time.
