Youngstown: There will be a memorial service on Friday, May 3, 2019 at 6:00 p.m. at New Covenant Church of the Nazarene, 304 Matta Avenue in Youngstown with Reverend Jeff Gilkerson and Reverend Mike Byus officiating for Walter L. Woods, 79, who passed away Sunday morning, April 28, 2019 at his residence with his loving family by his side.
Walter was born February 19, 1940 in Connellsville, Pennsylvania, the son of the late George L. and Stella P. (Taylor) Woods. He moved to the Youngstown area over 50 years ago.
Walter served in the Marine Corps. He was a member of New Covenant Church of the Nazarene and enjoyed bowling, where he belonged to several leagues.
Walter is survived by his wife of 47 years, the former Kathy A. Kent, whom he married on July 29, 1972; two sons, Ronald S. (Heather) Woods of Brookfield and Walter W. (Vicki) Woods of Youngstown; his sister-in-law, Beverly R. Woods of Boardman; 6 grandchildren and was expecting his first great grandchild.
Besides his parents, Walter was preceded in death by a brother, George Woods; his sister, Charlotte Brenner and her husband Red.
Family and friends may call on Friday, May 3, 2019 from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. at New Covenant Church of the Nazarene, 304 Matta Avenue in Youngstown with services to follow.
Walter was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, and enjoyed spending time with his family. He will be deeply missed.
