John S. Mentzer

Boardman – John S. Mentzer 82, of Boardman, passed away Tuesday, January 1, 2019 with his loving family by his side.

John was born September 30, 1936 in Youngstown, the son of John and Elizabeth (Lieberman) Mentzer and was a lifelong area resident.

John served in the United States Army stationed in Germany receiving and Honorable Discharge in 1956. He then went onto employment with Commercial Shearing in the press metal division retiring on July 1, 1999 after 42 years of service.

He is survived by his wife the former Cindy Shaffer, whom he married May 16, 1959, three sons Jim (Sally) Mentzer, Jeff (Janine) Mentzer and John W. Mentzer, a grandson Jeffrey Mentzer Jr., four great grandchildren Rebecca, Jordan, Samantha, Alyssa and Ty.

Besides his parents, John was preceded in death by two sisters Ida Daniels and Betty Lou Zuzan.

Per John’s request there were no services or calling hours held.

Arrangements were entrusted to the professional care of the Thompson Filicky Funeral Home, 4221 Market St., Youngstown, Ohio.
