Gladys B. (Yambar-Little) VanDyke, 78
Canfield: There will be funeral services on Saturday, March 11, 2017, at 11 a.m. at Thompson Filicky Funeral Home, 4221 Market Street in Boardman, with Rev. David Fidram officiating, for Gladys B. (Yambar-Little) VanDyke, 78, who went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, March 7, 2017, with her family by her side, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Gladys was born May 20, 1938, in Youngstown, the daughter of the late James H. and Gladys L. (Haag) McBride, Sr.
She graduated from South High School in 1957 and Youngstown State University in 1986 with a Bachelor’s degree in social work. She was proud to have made the Dean's List several times.
Gladys worked as a sales clerk at McKelvey’s Department Store, an operator at the Ohio Bell Telephone Company, a private caregiver for the elderly, and a pre-school teacher’s aide at Highway Tabernacle Church.
Gladys was involved in several churches and ministries in the area: Highway Tabernacle Church, Bethel Assembly of God, and Second Chance Ministries/Al-Shaddai House of Worship, where she was the church secretary and involved in the card ministry.
She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, the nature of Mill Creek Park, the great outdoors, and her trips to White House Fruit Farm. Gladys made, without a doubt, the best kolachi and kiffles ever.
She is survived by her four children, Rev. Christopher D. (Maureen) Yambar, Timothy S. Yambar, Katie M. (Steve Schiffhauer) Davis, Sharon E. (Alan) Lasick; two stepchildren, Jeff (Ravy) Little and Diann (Floyd) Barron; seven grandchildren, Justin, Brandon (Brittany), Jana (Jason), Joseph (Jodi), Ashley (John), Daniel, and Joshua; and seven great-grandchildren, Jason Paul, Dominic, Aiden, Anthony, Lincoln, Jocelyn Marie and Jax.
Besides her parents, Gladys was preceded in death by her husbands, David A. Yambar, Dean K. Little and Lawrence I. Van Dyke, and three brothers, Arthur W. McBride, James H. McBride, Jr., and David A. McBride.
Family and friends may call today, March 10, 2017, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Thompson Filicky Funeral Home and on Saturday, March 11, 2017, from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
