Dorothy E. Powell, 95
Hingham, Massachusetts: Dorothy E. (Simonson) Powell was born and raised in East Rockaway, Long Island, New York. She went to her eternal rest, peacefully, at the age of 95 in Hingham, MA. As a child, she spent summers with her family in South Hampton and then Cutchogue, LI, NY. It later became the family “Compound” where she and her family cherished their time, boating, water skiing, crabbing, clamming, fishing, picking blueberries, and making memories together.
She was a graduate of Eastern Nazarene College in Quincy, MA and loved to tell stories of working in banking on Wall St. following graduation. She and her Husband, B. Dale Powell, settled in Boardman, Ohio where they raised their family and owned and operated “Dottie’s”, the first coin-operated laundry and dry-cleaning business in the area. Dorothy managed all of the business finances. For many years, she also served as treasurer, organist and Sunday School teacher at the Youngstown Church of the Nazarene. Dottie was a great cook and loved to entertain.
Dorothy and Dale retired to Ft. Myers, FL. where they enjoyed making new friends, spending time shelling on Sanibel Island and entertaining their children and grandchildren. Dorothy is remembered for love of family, her unwavering faith and her strength in face of illness and adversity.
She was married to the late B. Dale Powell, and is survived by her children, Garrett and wife, Janet, of Hingham, MA, Gayle Reay and husband, Larry, of Columbus, Ohio, and Denise Crum and husband, John, of Irmo, S.C. She leaves four grandchildren, Heather Powell Jarvis, Beth Reay, Aaron Crum, Adamson Crum and seven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Marion Robins and husband, Ben of Cutchogue, NY, as well as many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, June 9, 2018 at 11 am at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Chapel, 5400 Market Street in Boardman.
