Luebell V. (Shields) Smith, 89

     Grant, Florida:  There will be graveside services on Tuesday, November 28, 2017 at 10:00 am at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, 5400 Market Street, Youngstown for Luebell Virginia (Shields) Smith, 89, formerly of Youngstown and Clayton, Georgia, who passed quietly on Sunday, November 19, 2017.

     Luebell was born in Girard, Ohio, on July 28, 1928, she was the fifth of eight children of Harry and Lilly (Baker) Shields, and the beloved wife of Robert Bruce Smith of Youngstown.

     During her time in Ohio, she was a telephone operator, a homemaker, and a sales representative for Halle Brothers Department Stores in the Cleveland area. After retirement, Bob and Lou relocated to Clayton, Georgia where she taught Sunday school and enjoyed needlecraft, bowling, and gardening. She knitted and crocheted countless afghans, mittens, hats, doll clothes and ornaments for her family and friends. She was an excellent cook. She and her husband grew enough tomatoes, corn, potatoes, and beans to last the year. For many years she created crafts including dolls, afghans, sweaters and angel ornaments for the Log Cabin gift shop in Mountain City, Georgia.

     After the death of her husband, Robert in 2013, she lived in Grant, Florida with her son, Jeffery W. Smith and his family. She is succeeded by a stepdaughter, Leslie Howe (David) of Knoxville, TN and a stepson, Robert Smith (Nancy) and of Huron, Ohio and son Jeffrey Smith (Dinna) of Grant, Florida. Her grandchildren are: Ian Robert of Grant, FL, Elisabeth Howe of Delray Beach, FL; Jay Smith of Maryville, TN; Elizabeth Pfeiffer of Cranston, RI; Courtland Smith of Sandusky, Ohio; three great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

      In addition to her parents, husband, and siblings, she was preceded in death by a stepson, Adam A. Smith.
